Great day of golfing fun and camaraderie for a great cause — with great prizes, giveaways and food — is what’s planned for the annual Golish Financial Group Charity Golf Tournament on Monday, Nov. 17 at the Boca Lago Country Club (8665 Juego Way) in Boca Raton.

The Golish Financial Group Charity Golf Tournament works in conjunction with its public charity, the Helping Israel Fund, for the sole purpose of raising funds for Israel and the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

Said Glen Golish, president of the Boca Raton-based Golish Financial Group and chairman of the golf tournament: “I’m honored to be hosting this premier golf event. My business associates, colleagues and friends are proud to support Israel’s Defense Forces.”

Golish indicated that event proceeds will directly benefit the soldiers serving in Israel’s military, as there aren’t any administrative fees associated with the fundraising — thus allowing 100 percent of the proceeds to help Israel’s soldiers.

Golish said: “The IDF has been the front line of defense for the state of Israel since its beginnings. Israel provides the equipment and other basics that make the IDF the premier fighting force that it is, and yet there are many essentials for which it does not budget because vast amount of funds, by necessity, are allocated for armaments and defensive needs of different kinds.

“Supporting our IDF Charity Golf Tournament is thus a significant way to help the soldiers that put their lives on the line to defend and protect the state of Israel each and every day of the year. It is important for the soldiers to know that we don’t want them to walk alone and that we are ready to step up and help to meet their immediate needs.”

At the tournament, there will be contests for the top foursomes, closest to the pin, longest drive, closest to the line and hole-in-one. The event will feature a scramble format and a 27-hole course. Each golfer will receive a special premium gift in honor of Yashar LaChayal, an organization that benefits Israel’s soldiers.

Golfers will enjoy lunch, a cocktail reception and a sit-down Awards Dinner at the conclusion of the tournament, where the winning foursomes and raffle winners will be announced and the prizes awarded. Non-golfers can also enjoy the lunch and evening events, which will include a special presentation by an IDF soldier.

The tournament is dedicated in loving memory of Stewart Harris, who passed away last October. Harris served three years (2007-2010) as the president of the Jewish Federation of South Palm Beach County, and had a profound love of the Jewish people — inspiring others by his commitment to the community. Jeffrey Harris, Stewart’s son, is honorary tournament chairman.
